Length: Worker 18-30 mm.
Colour: Worker is brown and black.
Other Features: Worker has amber coloured wings. The European hornet is the only true hornet in Ontario. It is often very active at night. This hornet is a very strong flier. The nest is like that of the Bald-faced hornet; however, it is brown rather than greyish blue. The nest is often built in the wall voids of buildings.
